    Buddy's boat

A buddy of mine is looking at a 395VF with a 200 Yamaha va max. 6 inch jack plate he tested it with 25m prop, it was getting 5450 rpm at 55 mph. Compression check was between 90 -95 on all cylinders. It had a four blade on it and we took it off. What should the jackplate height be it seemed really high to us?

    2000 boat and 1998 motor.

Does the compression seem low to you?

31/2 below with a 25 Tempest or 24 Fury you should be around 65...The boat /motor combo will not be a
speed demon with a 200 as its rated for a 225...but should still be a decent performer..
Never did like the m props some work gook ,some are dogs...

I have a 25 tempest and a 24 fury but on a mercury optimax motor. Do we need a different hub?

Not sure what year the motor is. It might be ok on compression. I think some of the older yamaha motors ran a little less. I could be totally wrong but I think I read that somewhere.

Agree with TOC on the motor height. I would start at 3 1/2 below and come up...but my guess is that is very close. He will need lift. A tempest would be my bet.

    Re: Buddy's boat (Tommy13)

I am in agreement with TOC. That boat should be running above 60. Hopefully the jackplate is set right. Compression meters very depending on who makes it. How is the jackplate set? It could be too low. What is the water pressure?

No water pressure guage (We will fix that). Motor was set at 2 1/2 below pad on a 6" Pro Hi-Jacker plate. We plan to take it out Friday and run a few props on it. We have a 25 four blade (no name) 25 M, 25 tempest, 24 fury. I will let you know what we get. Thanks for all the help.

Drop the plate an inch as well and see how you do. I think that is an inch to half an inch high. Only testing will tell you for sure.

    Re: Buddy's boat (Tommy13)

We lowered it to 3 1/2. I will also take pics this weekend so you guys can see it.

This makes three buddies this year alone going to charger. Mitch Webb, Keith Hays, and now Chad Donaho. What you guys putting in the water? On a side note we have one of the best Charger dealers around Bills Marine. Best group of guys in our territory.

Re: Buddy's boat (TOUCH OF CLASS)

Well boys we ran four props and believe it or not the 24 fury ran the best. We got 66 out of it with just Chad in the boat. 64 with Chad, all his tackle, gas and me in the boat. Pad hieght at 3 1/2. Boat ran great. I forgot to take pictures but when we get all of HDS stuff installed I will take pictures.

    Re: Buddy's boat (pattece)

Thats real good,I know the furys run good on the 21 ft and smaller boats...plus they like to run a little deeper which is where the 5 series like the prop shaft.
