Looks like a Skeeter starfire![]()
No 45 (or Whatever degree) angles off the transom.![]()
Everyone is a splash of something except Allison.
We could all go on discussing the splashing for years.
Why not celebrate what we have in common?

I was just wondering. Caught my eye.
Surprised you haven't posted the same about Cajun....![]()

He probably doesn't realize that Champion was a splash off the Skeeter Wrangler ...![]()
Lots of folks don't realize that...they might be surprised.I've never seen a pic of the Skeeter....that would be interesting.

Neat! Thanks, butch!!!!![]()
Best way to see if it is a true skeeter wrangler splash (also a direct splash of a hydrostream bottom) the pad looks like this:
![]()
Looks pretty much like a 2011 BCB pad:
A champ on the other hand has a lil bit of R boat in its roots as the pad is ripped from a 3xx series. The hydrostream varmint, champ python, and skeeter wrangler are all great little fast boats and have been splashed numerous times. I myself like the handling of the keeled pad over inverted, but to each is own (keeled pad corners better, thank ranger for that a lil). The champ did have a coffin style rear and "deep V wedge" which was an important part of its cornering ability (thank hydrostream) that the skeeter didn't quite have (could be the pad though that caused cornering differences). Those are the original three V bottom bassboats. A lil ahead of their time, but the reason we're not running tri-hulls today.![]()
When you appreciate your champ tonight or next time you are out, thank that guy from Minnesota Howie Pipkom.![]()
He's really the single reason champs are what they are.

Gamblers are pretty much a later Baker version of hydrostreams also. So if you own a Gambler you can thank hydrostream too.![]()

Didn't know those 70's chicks looked so good.
Where'd you find that brochure? Get one from a year later you'll see a near replica of the python called a varmint.
When do you want to hit up Geneva?

Got a feeling some of our knowledgeble historians might disagree...

When did the 300 rangers come out? I don't recall seeing any of them until a couple years after the 16'8", and the rangers I've seen on lifts have had flatter pads than a champion. Where are you getting that info?
I'm pretty sure ranger was still building only tri-hulls and the Allison designed semi-v pad boats when the first 16'8" champs came out in 77-78, but since I was 4, I don't really remember. Got any pics of a ranger vhull from 77 or 78?
I really do find the design history of bass boats interesting.. Not trying to be an ass, just want to learn something if the way I understand things is wrong.
I can't remember, but possibly the Champ history is in the thread pinned at top...World according to Pat...
