Evinrude 225ETEC HO 2007 --- ran out of gas on one tank

    E225DHLSUA

Made an error today and ran 1 of my tanks dry. I thought I had switched the valve over to the port tank, but was running the starboard tank and ran it dry. Engine stopped as it should have when running out of fuel. No alarm or any lights.

I switched the valve over to the port tank and tried to start....no dice. OH yeah, I thought, pump the bulb. Did so with no success. Waited about 15 minutes and tried again. No start.

I waited another twenty minutes and she fired up. Mis-started twice with a stutter...then ran smooth.

Any recommendations on what I should do should I ever accidentally run out of fuel in my saddle tanks?

    Thanks,
    BassCatDan

When you ran it dry, the whole vapor separator tank, fuel rails, and the injectors themselves got air in them. It takes a while to bleed off all the air and have solid fuel in the system. The injectors have to then cycle a few times to purge the air also.

The best way is to squeeze the ball until rock hard, turn the key on and the electric pump will run for about 5 seconds, pump the ball constantly and turn the key on for about 4 or 5 times to get fuel back into the system. Then you may have to crank it a few times as it will start and stop several times. All of a sudden, all the air is purged and the motor runs the way it should.

As with any fuel injected motor when you run out of fuel you will introduce air into the fuel system.

With your motor I would suggest you prime the bulb until firm, turn the key to the on position, wait until the fuel pump stops, turn the key off and re prime the bulb, follow this procedure until the primmer bulb remains firm, then crank the motor, this will refill the fuel system, once you start cranking you will bleed the air from the injectors and the motor will restart and run.

    Great minds think alike.

We use our fuel pressure tester to bleed the fuel system before first start up on a enigne install. Without doing this it may take some time getting one to start.

Thanks to the input everyone! Great feedback as expected.
I love my ETEC and I want to keep her running like a champ!

On another note, I am going to start running XD100 (at TCWIII setting).
