Need Help!! Putting a seal kit in my '96 Rude 150 Intruder

How hard is it to put in new seals for the lower unit? Never have done this before. Is this all I will need to do, or do I also need to put in new bearings in the lower unit also. How about a manual that would give me some instructions before getting started? Dealer says about 65.00 for seal kit, and about 3 hrs. / 255.00 for labor. Would love to be able to save this money for something else.

    Any help is appreciated.

You could look on Amazon.com and see if they have a repair manual for your motor. If not then JC Whitley has manuals for about half what that guy told you. I got mine from them and I have a 96 Evinrude 150 Intruder. If the prop shaft seal is bad you can replace it but there are seals on the driveshaft into the case as well as a shifter shaft seal I think. They would require you to drop the gearcase. Hope this helps you a little. Maybe someone smarter than me will post a reply too. Real McCoy

He has to pull the LU to do all the seals and that means they are getting $85/hr shop rate. All of the seals are included in the kit and then some that is about the right price for the seal kit for your motor. You should still be able to get an OMC shop manual from your dealer, 95 and below you have to order from Ken Cook marine. I personally like the sealoc type manuals, but if you want to get one then that is up to you. Have your model # with you when you order and also order a parts manual at the same time. Best bet would be a bonafide OMC service manual and parts catalog. CM

Did mine last week. It was the first time I have done l/u seals. I only did the prop seals though but it was pretty basic. I didn't even use a manual.
