    Pedestal seats

Is it pretty common to have problems getting these pedestal seats in and out? Took me 45 mins. of swearing and twisting and pulling to get the front out. The back one, I had to take a couple blocks of wood and the car jacks out of the vehicles to jack it out. I'm afraid to put them back in.

I would sand them lightly some people said they sanded the actual base but I would only sand the pole! or you could use vasoline!

How were you able to use wood and the jack?

3 years now and I have yet to be able to get either of mine out without destroying them, after numerous attempts and trying all of the other suggestions.

Using a flap wheel, lightly sand the inside of the base. Or the bottom of the pedestal pole...Very lightly. Other threads on this subject recommend NOT using any oil, etc, as that creates suction...

I will try to find more threads regarding removal .....

    OK, try here..

    Re: Pedestal seats (Lea)

I cut a slot halfway in on a piece of 3/4" plywood so the pedestal was in the center of the board. That is for the floor under the seat. I used 2 bottle jacks and jacked one up a bit then the other. That back seat pedestal is down in the livewells so it is a problem. Just buy an inch and a half sanding drum for your drill and clean out the base. Mine works great now and I take it out after every use.

Ah so you did it from the underside. I have no access to the underside at the front seat.

    Re: Pedestal seats (JackJ)

I'm not gonna say the finish on the pedestals weren't somewhat damaged by the time I got them out, cause they were. I don't use them anyway when I'm in a tourney, but will occasionally use them when I'm just taking a day off to fish all day. I figured if need be they could be replaced if I so desired, thats why I didn't worry too much about damaging finish. I just wanted them out!!!

Its a 2000 191. The old Cajun I had before this had the old style pedestal holes. They were wobbley, but they went in and out ok.

Just glad I got these out.

    JackJ...

No..not the underside. I think he means he used the plywood on the deck to protect it from the jacks...The jacks set on the plywood, not the carpet....When he said "under seat", he means under the pedestal seat, not under the floor...

    I think that's what he meant....Glen???

    Re: Pedestal seats (Lea)

I used the wood blocks to protect the jacks from the deck. To spread out the pressure.

I think that's what Glen means with the plywood. Good ideas from you both!!!!

    Re: Pedestal seats (Jcrews)

On my old Champion, when I finally got those seats out, I took them to a Machine shop and had them to turn the pole down just a very tiny bit, I forgot how much, so many 1000th and I had no more problems. On my present boat I sanded them with a Drimmel, works fine.

Oh ok. So what did you actually jack on on the pole? Or should I say what did you attach to the pole to put the jack under, or is your seat attached to your pole? Mine is not.

    Re: Pedestal seats (JackJ)

The plywood is to protect the deck and I set the jacks on it. I took two 2x4 small boards to support the top of the jack and they went under the seat. Mine is a 2004 with the fat pedestal and the rear was so tight it wouldn't turn with a pipe wrench.

    Re: Pedestal seats (gleninaz)

For what it's worth... the pedestal seat poles fit REALLY tight in my 07' 21sx. After twisting, pulling, and swearing, they finally came out. I ended up having to trim a little of the carpet around the edge of the holes. The pedestals were pulling a little carpet in creating an excessively tight fit. A little trimming and a little white lithium grease on the pedestal base solved the problems for me.

    Re: Pedestal seats (Mark21SX)

Here's what I do. Simply put some ice all around the base of the pedestal. Wait a few minutes and then try to pull it out. The ice causes the metal on both the pedestal and the base to contract a bit, making it easier to pull out.

Nice idea. I'm going to try that one. I've tried everything else with no luck.
