    Boysen Power Reeds

I was think about spending some money and installing these on my motor... it a 1997 Mariner 150 EFI.... Anyone have pros or cons?

    Better mileage?

    More power?

    Thanks,
    Terry

    Re: Boysen Power Reeds (catchatoad)

I am a huge fan of composite reeds, just not a huge boysen fan. They're ok, but way overpriced.

You can get a set of composite land and sea for less than half, with the same performance gains. There's more than a few places to find reed kits for that motor, shop around.

    Re: Boysen Power Reeds (catchatoad)

get with jay smith on the merc performance board. he's gonna tell ya TDR's which is what i use myself and have had good luck with.I havent seen much power increase on my mercs usually 100rpm usually a little better whole shot . I mostly do it in older motors for protection. suck up a metal reed and you done, suck up a carbon fiber one and you'll live to run another day!

True fact, any motor older than five years should be looking to replace reeds.

I put a set of Boyesen in my carb Evinrude years ago. A good move! But I would try the brand Pat suggested if I had it to do again..

how hard are the reeds to change? could a mechanically inclined type of person do it or is it better to let a shop do it?

Re: Boysen Power Reeds (Tx Champ)

I bought a sheet of carbon fiber and made my own with a dremel tool. $20 and they're still running after three years.

I don't remember the place I got it from, and honestly don't remember the thickness...it's hell getting senile.
