    Extending my casting deck??

I said DECK not the other!! That would be a different thread.

I have a 1990 CHAMP 184, I would like to extend the casting deck a little. I would like something to build or buy that would fit between the rod lockers. It really wouldn't be needed for storage just to get a little more deck space. If I could get it to store stuff that would be a plus. I like to carpet it also.

Has anyone done this before? Plans/blueprints? Website? Advice?

    Thanks

I have a 2001 193 and would be curious about the same thing, just squaring off between the 2 lockers, at the same height. I know there is a "cooler" step up that is not flush with the deck and I may end up looking for one of those.

I did that with my 1990 176. Used Marine plywood and contacted Champion for the matching carpet.... In your case, the matching carpet might be difficult to acquire, but probably possible to get close to the color from marine supply companies. I measured width all along the area I wanted to fill with deck, and then built legs to support at the exact height of the rest of the deck...worked great!

Sorry, no pictures, but it was not difficult... Tracy's plan sounds even better!!!

If you get the job done could you please post some pictures. I may want to do it for my 1990 Champ too.

    You might check with:

    http://www.candomarine.com

I know that factory deck extensions were available for some early models. They sat on 2 aluminum brakets and were secured below my bungy cords. The space below the extension could be used for storage. The extension was carpeted and fit flush. You had to add the "fabric tabs" to be able to open the rod lockers after the extension was in place.

    Peace,
    Don<><
