Why are you worried about panicing and what were you worried about last week when this subject was not even on the horizon?

This is the nature of internet forums and newsgroups. One person posts something that may not be accurate, whether by choice or ignorance, but is "inflammatory" so someone else adds their spin to the post, and on and on. Then someone else posts the innacurate info on another web site or forum and the process starts all over again. Soon other folks see it "all over the 'net" and think "Wow, this must be true, I see it everywhere".

Don't forget that there are very very few folks active in newsgroups ( here, excepted) that really know what they are talking about. Most just parrot something they heard from someone's brother-in-law's neighbor's cousin and post it like it was true. The "sheep" just follow along making long threads about nothing, mostly flames and personal attacks or hijacking the thread.

Re: rusty-sea horse xd100 or not xd100 (SEAHORSE)

I purchased a new stratos with a etec 200 last week. I read in my manual that it said to use xd-100 so I did ask him which oil to use and he said xd-50 because that is what the rep said to do. I dont know much about this motor but he said when new etecs come in from factory that there set up to run xd-50. Is this true seahorse??? If so then it seems like thats what they want run through it, IF it comes from factory like that. please answer!!!!

I believe the reason why ETEC comes from the factory set to run TCW3 oils is due to some kind of trade law. Since BRP is the only maker of XD100 I do not believe they can ship them out this way.

I sure wish this issue would get resolved and BRP would come and state who should/can use XD-100 vs XD-50.......

E-TECs come from the factory set up for TC-W3 oil so the boater can use any approved outboard oil right from the get go and not have to worry about only using and obtaining the XD-100.

The XD-100 setting is an OPTION so that an owner has a choice of accepting the XD-100 synthetic oil or not.

Even at the TC-W3 setting, an E-TEC uses less oil that other makes of DFI motors.

Re: rusty-sea horse xd100 or not xd100 (SEAHORSE)

I just purchased a Wellcraft Sportsman 180 with a 115 Etec. The dealer put XD 50 in the oil resevoir because that was the factory setting. I had been researching the Etec's and the XD100 has such positive reviews, I wanted to know why they set it up with XD50. The owner came out and we went into the service department and got out a gallon of XD100. On the back of the gallon there was a chart that showed recommendations for the use of XD100. It was not recommended for fishing, but for all other uses. As I have read posts, XD50 had issues with carbon deposits and had to use an additive to help decarbon with the use of the XD50 at low trolling speeds. This was pretty much eliminated by those using the XD100. I'm not worreid about cost, just doing the right thing for my new Etec 115. What do you recommend?

When they talk about fishing applications they are talking about portable outboards. Mainly 25hp and down. These are all premixed engines. When you premix with XD100 and look at the fuel it does not look like any oil is in there.

BRP should update the lable that is on the bottle as it causes alot of confusion with the fishing remark.
