    Papua New Guinea Canoe Fishing

I've had two trips to the island of New Britain in PNG chasing PNG Black Bass. I was fortunate enough to get to fish a river that has never been fished with a rod and reel before. It was about 10 miles from the lodge so we carried the Predator over on a long boat.

We had to carry it over the beach to a landlocked river where we found a few fish. This is a 13lb PNG Black Bass

Pam with a very light coloured Mangrove Jack

    Pam's first Tarpon.

    It was an amazing place.

Just saw this, sorry. Our Mangrove Jacks normally have a lot more red in them than that one. Lot's of teeth and a member of the Ludjanid family. Our Tarpon are different to your's. Our's don't grow to 100 pounds.

    Awesome!

I noticed that you have an Old Town canoe/skiff. The factory and home base is about a 4 hour drive away from me in Maine. I didn't know that Old Town distributed outside of North America, but I went to their website and sure enough, they have a dealer in Australia. Learn something new every day.

Re: Papua New Guinea Canoe Fishing (NB Basser)

The Aussie importer does Old Town and Ocean Kayak. My best friend is the Queensland manager for Canoes and Kayaks with them. He sold the Predator SS150 to the owner of the lodge where we fish in PNG. I have one of my own as well. They are a great canoe. They are very popular down here, although expensive. The Predator SS retails for about $2100. You can buy a good Alloy Jon Punt for much less.
