    Stuck in Reverse?

I have a '94 200 Vindicator E200STLERK on a '95 Ranger 491 VS, No issues till now - It is to stuck in reverse, no matter where I move the shifter it stays in gear. The lever is at the engine is moving, so I figure the cable to the control lever is OK - any tips on where to check from there?

Shift cable may be broke, or the bolt has come out of the shift shaft.JMHO

Pull the shift cable off the linkage, pull off the Airbox. Watch the linkage while you spin the prop with your foot. If it comes out while moving the linkage by hand then you need to adjust the cable. If not you need to drop the foot and check down below. The shift rod pin is a tapered end bolt and to have one break is bad.

Thanks for the replys - I'm, pretty sure the cable is good, so I'll take off the Airbox & such ^& check that - I need to put in a new water pump so I'll probably drop the LU as well.

Check the link at the top of this forum, "John/Rude tips" this will show you where the shift linkage pin is located, it may have come loose.

Another thing to try after you remove your case, pull up on the shift rod, if it comes up more than @ an inch, you've probably got a broken shifter detent inside the case. Complete disassembly required!

    Re: Stuck in Reverse? (gearcaseman)

    I guess that's what I've got

When I took the L/U off the shift rod was free - I didn't think it was supposed to be. Took the cover off that the rod goes through & the cover & the rod bith slipped right out.

Lineman-20, Was anything attached to the threaded end of your shift rod that looked broken? If not, the rod might have just unthreaded from the detent, if so, just screw it back in, and try shifting. Hope this helps! Eddie

    Re: Stuck in Reverse? (gearcaseman)

What appears to be a notched cylinder is threaded on to the rod - I assume the different notches move something to shift the gearcase - I can see something broke looking in a cavity that the shift rod goes into, looks like a complete disassembly deal & I don't think i have the tools to do that. Gonna take it to Rockwall Marine this weekend, those guys are good. Tennesse is a little far away - Thanks for the replies
