A co-worker took these pictures.
He lives on a golf course just southwest of Henryville. He said he was upstairs in the office doing something, and had the tv on in the other room. The weather guy said, "If you live close to Champions Pointe golf course, you better be underground now." When he heard that, he immediately scrambled to the basement to his gun vault and took cover. He could see outside (walkout basement) and it looked dead calm. So he decided he would take a step outside and look. The lake was like glass, no trees were moving, nothing......he said he heard a noise, and thought it was an air conditioner unit kicking on. He walked around the house to investigate his air unit becasue the noise got louder and sounded like it was his unit coming apart. Then all of a sudden he looked to the north, and the funnel appeared over the trees. The noise was the tornado and he said it reminded him of a jake brake more than a train and that as it got louder he could also start to hear the trees breaking/cracking etc. in the distance. He scrambled to get his camera, took some pictures, and watched it make it's way towards Henryville while calling people he knew that lived there. He estimated it to be about 500 yards away from his house. The only damage he received was a banged up roof from the 3"+ size hail....
His wife and son were still at school in Scottsburg at the time of the tornado, so they were north of it, and he was south of it.
