champion 202 in garage.jpgHere is my new to me 1995 Champion 202 SC. It has a Mariner Magnum EFI 200 HP engine. I bought the boat from the second owner in NC. The boat was garage kept and is in excellent condition.I have replaced the older electronics with all new Lowrance Elite 5 and Elite 7 DSI LED graphs, replaced all the old batteries with brand new Interstate batteries, replaced the tachometer, water pump, both voltage regulators on the engine, and added a voltmeter to be able to view the charging status of the electrical system. My nephew and I recently made the trip up to Lake Chikamauga in Tennessee and had a great day of fishing. When we came out of Soddy Creek, the wind had increased dramatically. What was a calm lake when we went into the creek was now very rough with white caps and 1- 1/2 to 2 ft chop. This was the test of the boat I was looking for, since I had heard that Champions outperform other bass boats when it comes to rough water. And what I had been told was TRUE!!! I was able to do 40-45 MPH in those rough choppy conditions and it was the best ride I have EVER had in a bass boat. My 97 Nitro 884 Savage would have been bouncing HARD on those waves. The 202 just cut through them like a knife!!! WOW ...was I impressed!!This boat rides like a much bigger boat and it is a definite improvement over my Nitro. Now... I don't know how the new Nitros ride but my 1995 202 rides like a dream!!! The only thing I wish I could do....upgrade the engine to a Optimax 200 or 225 and hydraulic steering. That's it!!! When I can, I think that will be my next thing to do to her. Sell the 200 EFI and get the Opitmax or a Yamaha 200 HPDI.
Any idea what it's worth? The values I try to find seem ridiculously low. They really hammer the Champions since they are no longer in business. This boat sold for over $50k new!!!!!!! Comparable boats by other manufacturers sell for 65-70k new today!!
