Concealed Carry and Corp of Engr Lakes

Finished my concealed carry qualification last night. When we took the classroom portion the instructor provided material that says concealed carry is not legal on Corps of Engineers property. I assume this would include Corps Lakes like Table Rock. Does anyone know for sure ?

Good question, I don't think that was brought up in my class, I'm going to call the instructor I had and ask.

If you have questions about CCW on Table Rock you might call the Missouri State Water Patrol at (573)751-3333.

I think it is a slap on the wrist if the Corps stops you with one in your posession. Don't quote me on that. I almost always have my XD9 with me if I fish by myself. If you are concealed, and they don't ask if you are carrying, I would not volunteer that information if stopped anyway. The lakes I fish are patrolled by KDFWR anyway, and they never ask. I have even been stopped by the Coast Guard on the river, and they made no inquiries as to wether I had a firearm in my posession. I usually keep mine out of sight. Come to think of it, I was approached by a Corps Park Ranger with my firearm on me, and he didn't say a word about it. He was warning me about the dam gates being opened when Nolin was about to go over the spillway.

OP'er you can listen to any info you want, but this is badddd advice. If you are stopped lake patrol or any enforcement, you need to tell them you are carrying. This is a jailable offense in the state of OK. and you will lose your ccl.

Maybe bgibson can give you some info on this

In Nebraska you must inform the leo when he approaches you.

In Texas you are required to tell the LEO you have have a CCW only at the time they request proof of ID.

Re: Concealed Carry and Corp of Engr Lakes (lwlittle)

I asked an LEO during a routine boat inspection on Lake Roosevelt in AZ (I assume it's a COE lake, it's entirely within Tonto National Forest) what the regs were about firearms in the boat. He said the boat is considered a vehicle and those regs apply.

    Guess it varies by state.

I would assume the instructor knows better than us...I believe it would be wise to go on what he said!

I asked a twra officer about it who stopped me, and he said,"out to site out of mind." This was at night on Memorial Day weekend.

I asked the instructor that very question at my class and was told it was perfectly legal to carry on corps lakes in Missouri.

Have you ever read something you write, then realized it may have been the dumbest thing you ever typed? Yeah, I just did that. To clarify, yeah, don't hide the fact you have a weapon. I guess what I was thinking is, I never actually carry it on my person, but even if it is on the boat, you should probably let the LEO know. I keep mine in a storage box or the cooler.

The CCW laws vary from state to state, so I would suggest contacting a LEO in your particular state to verify their laws. I know by brother got arrested by the APD for not telling the officer that he was carrying immediately upon being stopped and questioned by the officer, it was only after he was asked to produce identification that he informed the officer that he had a CCW permit and weapon about his person. He was arrested and then eventually released when it was determined that he did correctly as the law required.

So he was falsely arrested due to a mistake made by the officer?

I know the laws vary widely by State and I know the KS law now. Like one of the above posts I think carrying in certain places when you are by yourself is probably a good idea. In KS, the instructor suggested you present you CC license with your driver's license if you are stopped but it is not required unless they ask.
