i mean something like an inch a hour type rain . The reason i ask is has your bilge pumps always been able to keep up, have you ever been concerned during a tx in heavy rain that your pumps werent keeping up ?

you're bilge pumps will keep up, i've fished in some CRAZY rain here in OK and never had a problem![]()
I have and had no problems. seemed like they were running constantly.
I can't imagine a correctly working bilge would not keep up. Even a 600GPH one if it just rain. Even hard rain. 600 gallons in an hour is a lot of water to fall within the area of a bass boat.
only once or twice... i dont think it wasnt the bilge pump not keeping up , as much as it was the rains ability to drain into the bilge to be pumped.....and it was way over an inch / hour rate, btw.....no way to fish, period.....here in FL , with the summertime humidity, ive seen my 6" rain gauge overflow in a little over an hour before....
sadly, we need some of that now....![]()
Usually, with rain that hard and intense, water in the boat would be my last concern. Around here, if it's raining that hard, there's usually some lightning to go with it.
Your pumps should be more than enough.

Just make sure your boat is equipped with automatic bilge pumps and you will be okay.

Most rigs have a bilge pump and an auto bilge pump, when the bilge can't keep up and the auto lights up, THEN... I keep an eye on things..... I've never had that happen yet....![]()
Many times, never a problem, auto pumps take care of it.

Yep, I've been in a Tx when it rained so hard I could not see my partner in the back of my boat. But, as others have said, the lightening was more of a concern than the bilge pumps not keeping up. Usually around here, if it rains that hard, it usually doesn't last too long.
Here's a clue to look for...when you make a cast and your line hangs in the air from static electricity, best to cover NOW! The lightening is fixin' to hit. I had this happen on a local lake, which was no big deal as cover was nearby. But, when it happened to me on Lake Erie, it freaked me out...time to RUN for the harbor!

"The man of system is apt to be very wise in his own conceit; and is often so enamored with the supposed beauty of his own ideal plan of government that he cannot suffer the smallest deviation from any part of it…He seems to imagine that he can arrange the different members of a great society with as much ease as the hand arranges the different pieces upon a chessboard.” Adam Smith, The Theory of Moral Sentiments
I have only experienced a bilge pump not keeping up with rain once. We were in New Guinea and received almost 10 inches of rain in an hour, yep that much. It wasn't like rain, it was like someone was pouring a bucket of water over your head. The 600gph pump couldn't keep up in a 20' longboat, and we had to pull the bungs out and get up on plane and head back to the lodge.
I fished a couple on the Potomac and it was NUTS! I had a small 15 and 1/2 foot Astro (miss that boat!) and it didn't have auto pumps...I fished all day and didn't worry even with them being manual I was still good to go.

seriously had a similar experience where the last two hours of the day it was a 2 inchz or so per hour drenching rain got over 5 inch that day (major flooding occured later as a result) and we had 20 lbs or so in the livewell so those pumps were also running a bunch and if anyone on here has had a 250 pro xs, a 3 gps units and livewells with power pole, and HD jackplate and trim running all day in a tourney running allthey know where I am coming from............
both my bilge pumps were pretty much running no stop and I started to panic that it would kill my cranking battery before anything else........maybe I was nervous because the a few weeks before I had just replaced my group 31 battery that crapped out after less than a year ............
Probably 8-9 years ago I was on G'Ville with Troy Jens, Timmy Horton was suppose to meet up with us later that day, then Tim called to tell Troy there were three tornadoes heading toward G'Ville. We got caught in one of them before we got to the ramp. When we got to the ramp we just tied the boat to the dock and ran for the truck. After 1.5 hours the rain stopped, the boat was full to the seats and was low in the water and the bilge was pumping like crazy. My opinion of bilges after that day changed some.
One time I was fishin in Greenbow Ala. and it started raining, and it didn't quit for four months. We went through every kind of rain there was. Little bitty stingin' rain... and big ol' fat rain. Rain that flew in sideways. And sometimes rain even seemed to come straight up from the boat. Shoot, it even rained at night... but our bilgepumps were fine.

I do not have an auto in the boat but have fished in rain so bad you could barely see the other end of the boat Not really a FUN day of fishing,![]()

Been there, done that. Guy I drew in a BFL was like "What the F..., why is my line doing this?" I raised my rod and said " same reason my rod is doing this" the tip was buzzing with the static electricity in the air.
