Compression for 1990 Evinrude XP 150

I am buying a 1990 Champion with this Evinrude XP 150 on it. Owner says runs well and no problems. I had it compressioned checked and found that 2 cylinders had 95, 2 more had 90, 1 had a 100, and 1 lower cyl had an 85.

One mechanic thinks this is just a tired motor and should be fine. I am not sure if motor was at temperature or decarbed recently. Also this was done 6 years ago by owner with very similar numbers.

Any help would be awesome...hopefully this will be my first bass boat unless these numbers are not good.

Re: Compression for 1990 Evinrude XP 150 (Marty50)

usually the lower left( looking forward from the back) is a tad lower in psi then the rest but not 15 psi. if nothing else decarb and then take the tests again. you may just need a ring job on all since you will have to tear down to do 1 you may as well go ahead and do all. check for scoring and any scratching on the one low cylinder. hope this helps some

All in spec. Depending on how big the Champ is don't expect a rocket sled. Good motor, just likes the fuel to keep he hull cruisin. I know had a '89 GT150 on a '89 201 and speedo 63 but gps 54-56. Not bad for a 150 powered 201.

On a smaller Champ theXP should rock it. We don't do hop up here but the boys at http://www.screamnfly.com do and you can tweak out that 150 with some $$ and mke that Champ fly.
