Today I lost a great friend...
Back when Steve Montville and I got into Bass fishing Tourneys we didnt know a whole lot...We fished our butts off and still got it handed to us pretty regular..Guys in the club would tell you they caught them on a black wormThe exception was Carl...Carl was a pretty big guy and before i knew him i will admit i might have been a little intimidated by him
Carl had a knack for finding big fish and we watched him collect plenty of envelopes for lunker..One day we went over and said "Hey what are you catching all these fish on" Expecting to get the old "Black worm" or some other standard answer..he looked around a bit and pulled us over and said "These and you can buy them at this place and you rig them this way" I was shocked...Was he pulling our leg like everyone else..Messing with the rookies
Nope Carl told us strait..and when he would find a new bait that worked he would let us in on it..After cashing a few checks
Just one of those genuinely good people that you dont find all that often anymore..I started helping him fix his boat and then kept in touch after we were out of the club and did all the repairs on his truck..I would get done and tell him a price and he would tell me it was too cheap and throw 40 bucks inside my truck..he always made sure he did more for you than you did for him
I honestly dont think he had an enemy in the world
So if you could please say a prayer or make a toast to Carl Butrym
Your life may have been short...But your impact was always Big!

to you Carl Butrym for having such an impact on someone to send such a heartfelt message to all of us who never got the change to know you. May you rest in peace
