Lots of jobs...sad. We used the Food Lion in Clarksville, didn't see it on the list.
A total of 113 stores will be closed, primarily in areas in which the company has the least number of stores, along with seven ÂBloom stores and six ÂBottom Dollar Food stores that are located in overlapping Food Lion markets. One Food Lion store in Florida is being converted to a ÂHarveys store.
Also announced was the closure of distribution center located in Clinton, Tenn.
A press release issued today stated the company plans to Âaccelerate the roll out of the Food Lion brand strategy in an additional 600 to 700 stores.Â
After these actions are complete, Food Lion will operate in 10 states and have 1,127 stores.
"Today's actions will continue to solidify our U.S. operations and enable our company to focus on our successful brand strategy repositioning at Food Lion and the expansion of Bottom Dollar Food in new markets," said Ron Hodge, CEO of Delhaize America. "While these were difficult decisions given the impact on our associates, customers and communities, we believe these actions will enable us to better serve our customers in our markets with high density, while positioning the company for future growth."
All affected stores will close within 30 days, and store conversions will begin immediately.
Lose a few or lose them all
And some are saying the economy is improving?
I think I heard Boeing or an aviation plant somewhere is laying off over 1400.
Here we go again: Administration said the sign of an improving economy is gas prices increasing.

Glad to see that the one in Cookeville TN is not on the list either. Nice store and nice people.
I also heard this week that Sears is closing 120 or so of their US stores (most are some of the other name stores they own)

If they're like the ones here, I don't see a big loss. They're good for milk and bread, but I don't care for their other stuff. Produce always seemed to be small. Cereal boxes were smaller etc. I see the ones close to me aren't on the list. 1 Bottom Dollar store is. I've never been in there. Sorry to see people lose their jobs though.
They closed their stores here quite a while ago. They were the only grocery stores I have ever been in that were filthier than Winn Dixie.
Sick, tired, hungry, broke, busted, disgusted, can't be trusted, been imposed on and won't fight
We must have at least 10 or 12 FL in our area. A lot of other chains closed and left us with Walmart and Food Lion.![]()

With the draw down (gutting) of the military again, they lost a major contract for planes. I believe they said they are drawing down over 100,000 military members in the next year. You'll never see those numbers added to the unemployment figures though. I don't know of any states that pay unemployment to members discharged. Maybe JohnM could confirm that. I know VA doesn't.
It looks like a basic busines decision to me. The just started remodeling all the FL's around here which is about 10 of them.
Another brand that can't compete with walmart.

That stinksThe Grocery chain I work for closed several hundred stores.
I'd rather be fishing cause girls fish too.
We haven't have Food Lion stores in 12 or 16 years. I hated it... I would drive past Food Lion to go to Albersons or Homeland (Safeway).
BTW...most of those 1400 Boeing jobs were moved from Wichita KS to Oklahoma City....and gas is still under $3.00 here.![]()
Don't worry Ma'am....
I'm only here for the Bass.
I have 2 Food Lions in my area...the only 2 grocery stores here btw....![]()
I pay close attention to prices since I am the grocery buyer in the house. They are famous for doing the buy one get one free deal. Only thing....say Breyers Ice Cream usual price 5.49 1/2 gallon. They do a buy 1 get 1...now the price is 7.49 for the same 1/2 gallon during the sale. I am starting to drive 20 mins each way to hit Kroger instead. Food Lion has good locations, not good prices. If that continues, more closures I am afraid.
My fav...one week...coke 2 ltr on sale for .89(reg price is 1.29)...next week buy 1 get 1 free....the new price is 1.89. It adds up!!!
My all time Favorite supermarket is KROGER, now where I live there is not a Kroger for me to shop at just Food City and Wal Mart. Also IGA has always been pretty good smaller chain.
