    jack plate postion for shallow water

    i want to position my jackplate high so i can motivate and start to plane in 12" of water where i routinely fish lowering it as i come out of the water. comments? anyone doning this?

    yup, start all the way up and jack it down a bit as it breaks over to prevent complete cavitation!

    Depending on the type of boat you have, you may not be able to get on plane in 12" of water. Just experiment to see what it will do. I have been able to get my Cougar on top, in 2' of water, but haven't tried anything more shallow than that. I see no reason to take a chance on messing something up.
