HDS Linking w/ Ethernet

I've been searching for an answer and finding various opinions so I thought I'd ask. I have an HDS 8 hooked to SS at the console and an HDS 7 up front. I want to share waypoints so I can find something at the console and see it up front while fishing. I don't have a NMEA box which I understand syncs instantly. I've heard that with Ethernet they only sync at startup. If this is true, is there a way to sync without repowering the unit? Maybe putting it in and out of standby or maybe through the menu manually?

I have a 5 and 8 on console and a 7 on bow. All are connected via the LSS and Ethernet cables. When I drop a waypoint it goes instantly to the other two units. If a units if off, then the waypoint will go to it when powered up....................................RR

How are your units connected? Do you use an expansion port? Right now only my 8 is hooked to the LSS and the 7 is stand alone.

You need an Ethernet cable running from the LSS box to the 7...............then they can speak to each other.........................RR

You can hook up to three units to one LSS. Once linked through the LSS waypoints will be synced automatically between all the units. If one is off, it will sync all the waypoints once it gets turned on. NEMA will not do this. It only shares waypoints between two units that are both turned on and will not sync new waypoints. Ethernet is the way to go for waypoint management between units.

So they sync automatically and not just at startup?? Looks like I need a cable now!
