Cherry picker if accesible would be ideal, if not i would try to get my hands on a chain fall, and the lifting ring. If you have a very big tree with big limbs on it you can use that, or you could also use ceiling joists if you have any exposed in your garage with a 4x4 spanning 4 or 5 of the ceiling joists, or you could take it to your Merc dealer and do it the right way, which should probally be recommended.

Pretty sure someone will come along and tell you the tree idea and ceiling joists idea are bad idea's but i have lifted items weighing over 1,000 pounds doing that, just never did it with a items that are valued over $ 10,000, it will work though, your motor probally only weighs around 300-350 pounds. If you do decide to do the ceiling joist idea dont do it in the middle of the span, do it near a exterior wall.

Gambler thanks for all your help and input. I got a lift ring coming in the mail, i ordered it tonight. Ill just have to find a buddy with a cherry picker if not I could always rent one from united rentals for pretty cheap. That seams the best and safest way so I will stick with that, last thing I want is a motor that fell on the floor!

    I have a 2000, 882 w/150XR6

Mine and my friends do come up high. 60mph top speed just me. He's EFI, 65 WOT
Wells full, half tank fuel it's a dog but will finally fall over. A slight left hand turn helps.
Get your partner to run up and grab the seat pole !

Life is kinda hard but it's

Find out how much the local marine places want to raise the motor so you can shift holes. Be cheaper & safer . They have the right hooks & chains & fork truck.
5 minutes at most. Ask around.

You may have to UNDO the holes if the boat handles badly.........Boat place forktruck.
Launch there. Test run it. you can change quickly again. Maybe even get a prop to lift the butt for a better hole shot. Ask the different marinas to work a deal.

TRY THE PROP ......FIRST.........might not need all the engine moving. .....SEE IF you do have a correct prop on the boat now......first things first.

You can get a 1 ton chain hoist at harbor freight for about $30-$40. That's what I use. That and a tree should work out for you. I would not use ceiling joists..

    Damm it

I just reread your other complaint !!!!!!!!!!!

The motor sinks down when comong to a stop also................

That should be a water soaked foam area in the back
    motor too heavy
    motor set back too far
You do not know how to gradually slow the boat at the coming off planning speed

Props. Setbacks. height do not affect slowing down & drowning the motor very much.

    You have 2 seperate problems.

Hopefully the slow down is just you practicing how to do the slowdown better.
I can almost bring water on the stern deck of my overpowered Chaparral if I slow down too fast as I drop off of planning speed.

Funny, my neighbor just was talking to me about harbor freight and all the sweet deals and gadgets they have there! I will have to stop out there. As of now I got my lifting hook for my motor and borrowed a friends engine hoist, I live not to far from the lake so I will adjust it one way.. if that doesnt work ill adjust it the other way. I should have it all set to go this weekend, I will definitely post the results and the pictures so you all can get the final verdict!

So what it your prop to pad measurement now. It was off alot a 1-1/4" low, my Nitro 901 was rigged a 1-1/2 low also, that is something you would think Nitro would know when they rig the motors at the factory, i guess not back then atleast.

Its going to be pretty low, my guess would be 1.5' - 1.75' Ill get a good measurement in the morning.. Today i just did guess and check and found that raising the motor up did the trick.

Sounds good, and raising the motor makes way more sense to me than lowering it ! As long as your water pressure is still within the proper range, great!!!

Hey Bob, Does Nitro do all the rigging for their boats at the factory? My dealer does all the rigging at their dealership. They sell Ranger and Stratos now, but used to have Tritons as well, but that was many years ago. But in my case, I ordered the motor I wanted and the boat, they did the rigging. Just curious if that is the way it is normally done or not? No reason to know other than to know. My boat seems to have been rigged up just right to suit me.

Love all the stuff on these discussion threads. Thanks!!

There is a picture in the Nitro forum, this is the link below, it looks like the motors are rigged at the factory, i am not possitive if all the boats are rigged there though. I have no idea if they rigged all the motors 10 years ago when i bought my boat. Regardless who ever rigs them, they should not be off 2 bolt holes, or a 1-1/2" which was the way mine was mounted. My boat came with a jackplate that could not be adjusted either, it was just a 10" setback plate.

    Thanks Bob,

I am just curious about stuff and I find that I ask a lot of questions, and fortunately there are usually lots of people who know what I am asking about and don't mind sharing. I appreciate the insight.

    Thanks again Bob,

My Nitro was set up low also. With the setback plate they used you can adjust the motor in 1/2 hole(motor mount)aprox. 3/8" increments by alternating the bolt pattern using the upper and/or lower holes on the setback plate.
