Greer's Ferry lake & Merrisach Lake area camping/fishing ideas...

I am taking a couple of days off the weekend of Columbus Day (October 10th-13th) to go camping/fishing at either Greer's Ferry or Arkansas River at Merrisach Lake. I have fished Merrisach many times in the Fall but haven't been there in two years. I've heard the grass has taken over most of the back waters. As far as Greer's Ferry goes, I have never fished it before but I have done alot of fly fishing on the Little Red including twice this spring. Greer's Ferry Lake is a place I have always wanted to fish but have never had the boat for that place until now. Any suggestions or fishing reports?

To be honest, I am leaning towards Arkansas River. I love fishing the Arkansas River system this time of year but I am concerned about the over growth of the grass and concerns about my Stratos getting into places other than the main channel. I have always fished out of an aluminum bass boat there before. I would love to hear from someone that has fished it in the last couple of months.

    THanks,
    TC

If you want to catch some quality fish, go to Dumas, Ive not been down there since March, but you shouldnt have any problems with running your boat down there, just be careful in the back waters. Have you ever fished Coal Pile down there? It would be another one to hit.

What about the grass down there? Where is Coal pile located? I've heard of it and may have been there with my uncle a time or two and just didn't know it. I haven't been too far past the Bridge though.

    Thanks,

I'd vote for Greers, you can fish a mixed bag all day and have a lot of fun. Schooling hybrids, walleye, LM, SM and spots.

You can usually catch them with grubs. In May my partner caught 1 off of a c-rig lizard on an island point.
