Went pick up my motor yesterday and noticed after it got dark that the lights on the gauges were staying on. Also found out that the kill switch doesn't work and the motor will start in gear. I hate working on electrical stuff.

But kill switch not working ain't. They say it is a boat wiring problem and not a rigging problem.
Barry the gages can be wired to the key or to the master power /light switch. You can disconnect power from master switch see if the lights go off on the dash. Could be a faulty switch. Or could be a control box wiring issue which would more likley explain kill switch not working and starting in gear. Could also be a rigging issue the way the wired the new motor up in back possibly.

I would start by checking the main power switch and light switch they are the easiest to eliminate
I have been checking. It seems that it is backfeeding through the fuel pump. The wire that goes to the fuel pump remains hot and sparks when it touches the battery post. When it is touched to the post, the pump runs and the gauge lights come on. Without this wire hooked to the battery, the gauge lights seem to be working.
dang that suks!! good luck with that!! I am no good when it comes to electrical stuff!!

Not to be a stickler....But part of what I read you were NOT wanting to do was wiring the fuel pump AND trim pump...Correct? Also You DO NOT want the pump on 12v hot!!!!! If an injector, seal, etc. gives out you will have a motor or hull full of fuel!!!!! NOT GOOOOOD!!!!!

THAT'S BULLSHITZ!!! IF YOU RIG A MOTOR THE KILL SWITCH SHOULD WORK. I say they didn't do their job because it wasn't working right when you left with it. They are covering their azz. I'd be PIZZED if I were you.![]()

Mike, that is the problem. The fuel pump should only come on when the key is turned on. I have emailed Rothwell and he gave me some things to try.
Man I feel your pain and I do have to agree that the kill switch should be funtional before leaving the dealer and the power to the fuel pump should be interrupted through the key switch. The wiring problem could be in the boat or at the engine. I am willing to help you out this weekend if necessary.
Good luck on solving the problem. Im sure youre anxious to see what itll do.
Barry,
I would wire your fuel pump to it's own separate switch. Mine is mounted near my controls. You definitely want to keep the start in gear feature. These motors idle higher than a regular or promax 2.5. It will save your gearcase. Mine idles between 800 and 1000 rpm. I can look how my wires are if need be to help you out.
Sorry for the problems ! How about some pictures of the Boat and Motor !!!
