I have started several Yamahas with misc dual sided keys such as those used by Toyota or Nissan and even other Yamaha keys. Trick is to not push the key in all the way. Just work the key slowly in or out while gently trying to turn it. I have actually been using my buddies spare key on my 2006 250 HPDI for over year now. I even used one on a 2002 Yamaha carb motor and was able to use the choke as well.
