    Pressure Testing HPDI lower unit

I have a 300 HPDI, I am planning on taking my lower unit off and sending to HydoTech to have some work done to get my water pressure up. While I have it off I am going to replace my water pump and reseal.

Last time I change my lower unit lube, the lube was mikly, drain plug was hand tight. Not sure if I have a bad seal or if the guy that replaced my prop shaft didnt tighten it drain plug. I will drain it this weekend and see what I have. Just want to make sure I do not have a leak, if I do its very small.

I swear its getting to the point if you want someing done you do it yourself.

I donot have a service manual, but will get one.

Do you pressure test with prop on or prop off, I would think off.

I figure I can use a brake bleeder, I have a fitting that screws in the bottom drain. I've read where you pressure test at 14.2 pounds.

I test at 3 lb and see if it holds. Prop on or off shouldn't matter.

I would think if your plug was loose thats probably where you got your water from. I would change the fluid and check it again after a few trips to the lake.

I'm hoping when I check it this weekend it didnt leak. As loose as the drain plug was I would have thought it would have leaked lower unit lube, but it didnt, or at least if it did I didnt notice.

does not matter with prop? and you screw the tester into the top hole and pressure to 12lbs

How long should it hold on the leak down test.

    Thanks, Billy
