    IS THIS NORMAL??????

    1999 VMax 200 ox66

I took my cowling off yesterday to find out why 2 electrical wires kept drooping down from inside. When I put the cowling back on, I noticed the lower half of that upper housing (cowling would be upper half of the upper housing) seemed loose. With the cowling bolted on, I can jiggle the upper housing. Doesn't seem normal and feels like a bolt must be loose or missing. This is my first Yammie so wasn't sure 1. if normal and 2. where to tighten if needed. Anybody help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure I understand where you are talking about. Can you take a picture and email it to me, or post it on here?

Couple of pics here along with a couple of other minor issues i could use some help with.

    1. finger pointing to the section that I can jiggle.

    2. white stick pointing to a screw that seems to be the one to hold that section snug. the screw definitely has play, but was tight when i put a wrench on it. ??????????

    3. the white plastic piece split while i was poking my hand around that screw. i think it is part of the oil reservoir mix adjustment. i assume it is as easy as buying another one at local marine dealer and reinstalling.

4.is that rod supposed to be bent like that. i thought i read on another thread that it was supposed to be straight.

    5. can i use this oil with this motor?

    Re: (barbarian)

The joint (the broken part) is $8.37 on boats.net. It fits about every Yamaha with oil injection.

The oil linkage rod IS supposed to have a bend in it, at least mine does. I'd suggest not moving that locking nut, if possible, so you have a reference point.

The synthetic blend is fine to use. I used it for a while until I made the switch to full synthetic.

My bottom cowl is tight. Maybe the nut on the other side needs to be tightened. If you go to http://www.boats.net and find your engine, you can use the pictures to see where everything goes and the nuts or bolts that hold them together. If you can't find the pictures you need there, use the link pinned at the top of the page to go to Yamaha's site and view it there.

    Re: (barbarian)

    X2 on what BuzzB8 said.

That is the oil injection pump linkage so you are metering way too much oil with a broken fitting. Actually it's at "full oil" with it cracked so depending on how long it's been like that you may have fouled plugs or carbon buildup as well. You will also need to adjust the cam setting after replacing it. I would pull and examine the plugs (after fixing the oil delivery rate) and consider a de-carb.

And Pennzoil XLF or full synthetic are excellent oils to run.

I actually have not run it since cracking the plastic piece. Replaced it today. I did find out my other problem is the gaskets on 3 of my 4 bolts that old my lower cowling down are shot. My local dealer has to order the gaskets.

    Re: (barbarian)

Do you have a service manual for your engine?

You will need to make sure the cam for the oil pump the plastic part fits onto is properly adjusted. If not, you will be pumping too much oil and may have fouling issues. That's what the nut and threaded section on the bent arm is for.

i do not have the service manuel, but the nut should not have moved that stops the plastic piece.

    Re: (barbarian)

the part you are pointing to is actually a bolt that goes through a rubber bushing. the rubber bushings fail after exposure to the oil that always seems to seep out of the plastic intake cover on the front of the motor. i know, because i need to replace mine now. did the back ones already, am in the process of rebuilding my 200 and will replace them while the powerhead is off.

qoute "the oil that always seems to seep out of the plastic intake cover on the front of the motor."

Is there a fix to this? I can't tell if it is seeping from some place in the plastic cover or if it is from the connection of the hose to the intake and a zip tie might fix it?

    thanks
