    Any Motor Doctors in here?

No power! 200mercXRI, ran sunday but very slow out of the hole and 5800rpms but 10mph slower than usuall! Tried again today with another prop i know runs 70+ on my boat and it wouldnt get passed 2000rpm! Im ! I did smack a log last thurday but got my waterpressure back and thought that was the only problem. Ive been doin some research, Broken Reed? Weak fuel pump? Stator? or Power Pack? need some info! Thanks guys.

Hard to tell without some trouble shooting. Did it start all at once or gradually? When you lost water pressure, how long did you run it? Have you checked the fuel pressure with a gauge?

Re: Any Motor Doctors in here? (Alan S)

Shut off imediatly after lost waterpressure, got towed back the water inlets were chalk full or WOOD, cleaned them out (nosecone) flushed and checked Waterpump, everything good and got wp back. Sometimes been hell out of the hole and sometimes been awsome! its not a prop deal cause i know props and have tried 2 today that usually launch me loaded with 2 people and i was alone with less than 1/4 tank! Havent tested fuel pump, but it will idle forever. Total loss of power! Like i said finally got up sunday but was 10mph slower at the same rpm and now wont get up at all! PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Re: Any Motor Doctors in here? (DLaborde)

not getting past 2k sounds like bad high speed side of stator, but turning a given prop same rpm's but 10 mph slower makes no sense??????????? that seems virtually impossible?

I know, but it did and i was holdin Gps 2 days ago, unless the power pack or stator can throw off timing or rpm gauge? I dont know thats why im asking, gonna try and give my mechanic something to go off of. Thanks again guys.

Can the power packs be tested, I think i have 2 on my motor. How do you test the Stator? Anything else it could be?

Is your output shaft on your lower unit bent any. I'm thinking your getting some slippage in the gearing. Possibly spun a gear on the shaft.

Re: Any Motor Doctors in here? (toledo freak)

hub is not spun. Ran 2 diff flow tourqu hubs in 2 diff props! Its not gettin on plane at all now and wont break 2000rpms. It has had trouble out of the hole before, but next time out would run fine? I think i got something elctrical that has finally gone out?

Spun gear could be the answer, however when i spin the prop it sounds fine, seems like id hear something grinding?

Spun gear still wouldn't explain low rpm's. Looks like it's pointing to electrical.

I've seen a guy test power packs usising a test light. Hook clamp to ground and stick point in plug wire, if it misses it is working.

Re: Any Motor Doctors in here? (DLaborde)

I'm no mechanic. I had a '93 Merc 90 and when the stator died it would not even fire. Just cranked. I also had a fuel pump go out and the RPM would not come up. The RPM would only go up to about 2500 and not even get out of the hole. Sounds like maybe a fuel problem. Did you change your plugs? Perhaps one fouled and it's not running on all cylinders?

Re: Any Motor Doctors in here? (oiltech09)

Thanks guys, I relayed all these ideas to my mechanic as if I know what im talkin about! So i guess well see what he has to say, he said could be a number of things but did agree when i mentioned a powerpack. Said he would perform a compression test first and formost, did it a couple of weeks ago when i changed the plugs and waterpump and it was 125 on all six, SO WE WILL SEE! Will post results when i get um. THANKS AGAIN FELLAS!

look at the power packs usually not always but usually if you unbolt them and they are bad the soft plastic on the back of them will be melted but not always. other than that i got a merc manual here if you dont we can go thru it if you like.
