    Mono or florocarbon line

I was wondering what everyone uses when flipping and pitching plastics and jigs? I normally use berkley xl 17lb clear, has worked well for me except now I'm having a hard time finding it anymore. Guess berkley stopped making the clear line in 17lb and heavier tests. So looking at trying a new line for a change and would like your thoughts and opinions. I like the berkley 100% floro but it is hard for me to pay price for it.

    Thanks

For me it all depends on how heavy the cover is I am flipping into. If it's some nasty stuff I stick with mono (20-25LB Big Game) but for the most part 75% of my jig and soft plastic flippin is/was on flouro.

Re: Mono or florocarbon line (kstatebass)

Floro for most apps, but mono for topwater (floro line sinks) and also depending on season mono for jerkbaits early, floro for later in the year. Early jerk bait often takes long pauses so mono line wont sink below the suspending bait. Have been using Cabelas floro for general use, Invizex floro for light line. Maxima for mono. I use braid for frogs on grass. Bob J

mono mono mono. Light mono for clear water. I haven't found a fluoro that I'm willing to spool up.

Florocarbon for jigs, plastics, jerkbaits and some crankbaits, braid for buzzbaits, frogs, toads and punching mats and Izorline platitum for topwaters, spinnerbaits and some crankbaits. Larry Brumley

    Re: (kpbass)

I have had great luck with Sufix 30# braid on bottom w/Beavis and worms... and Vicious fluoro 20# on buzz bait rod last fall...
was told that XPS fluoro is even better (gullible me)...I now have a spool of 15# and 17# fluro to field test this spring...should be interesting...
have been using 20# P-Line the past few years on bottom rods...
    Okay, that was no help..lol...

    Re: (reelman)

flourocarbon...................but its one of those deals you get what you pay for.....Seagaur, Sunline, and Toray and some of the best and you pay a premium price for it......but the cheap stuff is super hard, making it almost imposible to manage, it kinks bad, and is not very abrasion resistance....my advise is stay with mono or spend the few extra $ on a premium flouro and use it all year........Most tournament anglers change their line before each tournament or two and I use to do the same.........I have been using "Toray" for about a year and 1/2.....I laughed at the pro staff manager when he told me I won't need 1/10th of the line i usually use annually.....But after a full tournament season he was right the 20lb Toray I had on my flippn sticks didn't get changed all year long all I did was take an empty reel and changed ends about 2/3 of the through the season. As long as you keep it out of the direct sun when you aren't using it a premium floro will preform 3-5 times longer than mono and lesser Flourocarbons.

The lighter 6-10lb won't haold up as long but it's still a much better product and worth the few extra dollars if you really want to experience the diffrence in flouro carbon line

    Re: (Lsto19)

Flourocarbon is the only way I go. Been using Seaguar for 7 years now. Only thing I use mono for is topwater and maybe crankbaits to control the depth they run.

    Re: (Lsto19)

I agree with what Lsto19 and a few other said. Need to buy good fluorocarbon. I haven't tried the premium lines mentioned (Seaguar, Toray, Sunline) but have not doubt they are good stuff. My two choices are P-Line 100% Fluorocarbon and XPS Fluorocarbon. The P-Line seems stiffer but more abrasion-resistant; the XPS is manageable but not as abrasion resistant. When abraded against wood, it tends to peel like string cheese, which has cost me a few fish. But it is a very manageable line. I have not been impressed with Vanish and Berkely 100% fluoro, but have only used in lighter weights. Just my opinion, others may disagree.

I use 17 lb XPS for flipping, but plan to go up to 20lb next time or switch to P-Line.
Like Larry said, I was impressed with the longevity of fluoro. I got an entire season out of one spool-up of XPS fluoro. Have to watch the last few feet of line for nicks of course, and cut off several feet between outings.
On spinning reels, I use 10lb braid with 10lb P-Line 100% Fluoro leader, and it is TOUGH stuff.

Tackle Tour had a great comparison of fluorocarbon lines. Good reading for sure.
    http://www.tackletour.com/revi....html

What's interesting though, is that the Tackle Tour review found that my P-Line Fluoro had much less abrasion resistance than the XPS fluoro, directly opposite to my real-world experiences. So in the end, I guess you might have to try several and use what you have confidence in.
