A great word about Milford and the tournamet

    http://www.basszone.com/2008qu...1.htm

-Not because he stunk it up, but because Milford Lake became more the site of a crappy crapshoot than a national bass fishing championship.

-on a fishery that was fairly poor to begin with.

-self-motivation from what blew away in the cold Kansas wind last week.

I got the feeling this guy will be RJ's neighbor in a week or two.. you know since he loved the lake so much

It's a shame! That T was really about who had the best luck. Championships should be held on bodies of water with a excellent population of fish. That way you can see who really has done their homework and can find the good fish.

Maybe he would have liked to pick his own lake to fish at. Why they had the Tournament on Milford, I have no idea, but then again if you can catch keeper fish here, so should have no problem doing it anywhere. And as far as dealing with mother nature, a Kansas fishing trip (weather BASS or not) is a crap shoot with what kind of weather you will get. My advise to him "If you don't like the lake you have to fish, Don't come fish it!)

Sounds like sour grapes to me. I was there as an observer and I can tell you guy"s that it wasn't all luck for the division winners with the possible exception of the southern division. The fishermen that brought in 3 fish over the two day's fishing had to figure something out and stay with it. Thursday the angler (Terry Fitzpatrick) that I observed for started out on a pattern that he had found in practice a month earlier but it wasn't working so he adjusted to doing something a little different than all of the other boats around us were doing. After 1:00 he started catching fish and had 4 over 14" but only 1 was over 15". Sat. he went back to the same area with the same pattern but the fish had not moved up yet. He doggedly stayed with it until it finally paid off with him catching 7 bass over 14" with 2 of them keepers the last half of the day. Both days at least 15 to 20 different boats came into the area both behind and ahead of our boat but all were doing the things that Terry had tried the first morning and I never saw another fisherman boat a bass in 2 days. Every so often we would be approached by another boater who would ask if Terry had caught any keepers yet to which he would reply no (let them figure it out themselves). One reason this was such a tough tournament was the 15" size limit. Remember the Bassmaster Classic in Pittsburgh a few years ago that Kevin Vandamm won with about 12# for 3 days. If there had been a 15" limit there would have been about 2 fish weighed in the entire tournament. Yes this was a tough tournament under bad weather conditions but you could tell by their attitudes and the way they were fishing that they had quit. So congratulations to the ones who won and better 'LUCK' next time to those who didn't but tried there damnedest. To those who bitched and quit trying don't be trying to take away from those who were successful despite the odds grow up and stop your complaining. Larry Brumley

Didnt you mean a 12" Limit compared to a 15" limit?

What I meant was if the classic would have had an 15" size limit instead of the 12" limit that it did have there would have been only a couple of fish weighed in. If Milford would have had even a 14" size limit like Oklahoma of even a 13" limit like Pomme their would have been more fish weighed in and it would not have been as tough except for the ones who didn't have a clue. Larry</TD></TR></TABLE>That may be true, BUT the fishing at Milford is still poor at best! They should have held it somewhere else. Was it a even playing field? Yes. This was a chance for guys to make it to the Classic. IMO to hold it on a lake like Milford was BS! PERIOD. Take them to a lake where there a fish, and see who can truly find a real stringer. The lake is 16000 acres, but fishes much smaller. For the most part the whole upper 1/3 if the lake is silted in. They might as well of fished Tuttle Creek.

My biggest problem with having the event there is the venue fishes too small to handle that many boats for that many days. The poor fish population and conditions just added to it. I think whoever qualified for the Classic damn sure earned it, but in organizing for an event like this the venue itself should be commensurate with the number of boats and days on the water. Just my .02.

KS lakes are "spot" lakes. Most of our lakes the lower 1/3 of the lake holds 95% of the fish and 85% of those fish are only in certain spots. Once the spots have been fished thoroughly the lake turns tough. What a joke to have a tournament like that on a lake in KS. Poor, poor decision.

I think many of us would gladly have traded any of those guys to be in that event, regardless of venue, but it doesn't change my opinion that they could've picked a lot better lake. It would be similar to holding the Super Bowl in Salina Central's stadium.
