99 VMAX 200 bog after extended idle.

Two out of the last three tournament blast offs I've had to throttle down /put the motor in neutral and rev the engine before continuing (then without a problem, other than watching the rest of the guys' get the jump on me). Not sure if it's loading up or what the problem is. It runs fine other than when I idle for say longer than about 5 minutes then the motor falls on it's face at take off. Any ideas??

Mine does that also,1999 Vmax 225ox66. After replacing the fuel pumps, filter it still bogs just like yours.I adjusted the oil linkage(above posts) to .025 from.038 and will replace the spark plugs from br9hs-10 to br8hs-10 which are hotter plugs. It only does it after long idleing mainly out to a boat lane but runs fine from there.I know these motors are not made to idle very long but have no choice.

If it's not the plugs, oil linkage.... I'd look into the TPS adjustment. Are you running a carbon preventer in all of the gas you burn? You should be.

I use sea-foam. Come to think about it I replaced the plugs not too terribly long before this started happening, possibly a bad new plug??? Funny it runs hard after clearing itself though.

    What plugs do you run?

When you are idling is your motor trimmed all the way down? mine smoked a lot trimmed down and wanted to foul plugs and bog. had to rev it up and clean the plugs off. so i idle with the motor trimmed up and always leave it trimmed up even while fishing. seems to have solved my promblem.

I'm running NGK BR8HS-10 plugs. I've also noticed the motor smokes more than I thought an EFI should at idle with it trimmed all the way down only problem is you have to be trimmed down when awaiting blast off. Maybe I'll try another set of plugs and see what happens, just seems odd the plugs can load up that much to cause it to bog (like it's running on half the cylinders) and clear up and run hard that fast. I'll report back after next weekends tourney.

I'd clean the O2 sensor and have the tps adjustment checked... http://www.boatsetup.com/O2sensor.pdf

I doubt it's the plugs if your running 8's. Oil pump linkage adjusted properly?

Going to order a service manual to see if I can tackle these myself. Only have one more tournament this weekend left for the year hopefully it won't happen then. Season could end anytime up here ,may have to have someone more knowledgeable than I check it when I bring her in to be put to sleep for the winter. Thanks for the advice all.
