    Electrical Problem

I have posted this in a couple of other forums as I need some help. Does anyone have any ideas?

I have had some battery problems in the past, but it now appears that I have a voltage drain on my starter battery. I don't know how much, but it ran down my brand new Optima Battery from 13 volts to 11.2 in less than a week while it was sitting in my garage.

It seems to be leaking even when I have all of the main breakers turned off.

I have a Yamaha 225 on my 520 Ranger. Is it normal for that Engine to pull some current all the time...perhaps for computer function or something?

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I should begin in order to solve this issue or have any experience with a similar problem?

Thanks in advance for your help!

The breaker only controls the boats accessories and instruments. The engine has power to it at ALL times. Try adding a "Master Cut-off" switch to the battery.

    John,

An isolation switch would definitely prevent your battery from being drawn down
    .

Is the motor the only thing your powering off your starting battery?

I have a few other auxiliary accessories on mine. (Just making sure the problem is isolated to your motor).

If its only your motor on it then it sounds like you have a slow leakage to ground on one of your electrical components that is more than the norm. This can be checked by isolating these components (starting switch, trim switches/ relays wiring, ect...) and putting a meter with an amp (current) draw option in series with each component to determine what is drawing your battery down.
