Clogged inlet for speedo on HPDI

Hey guys, Went out today and found some floating trash while I was up and running. Speedo is stuck at 40mph. I picked out all the wood I could out of the inlet hole in the lower unit with a dental pick. This has happened before and usually I just wait till it's in for service for the techs to clear it.

So how do they do it? Something about blowing it out backwards and pulling it out when it unclogs. Does someone know the right way to do this? I've heard others using drill bits . etc. The only thing I'm sticking in there is that dental pick or a paperclip. Lowers are expensive to screw up! FYI -2003 225 HPDI , THANKS JIM

If you use a drill bit (DO NOT PUT IN A DRILL) only turn it by hand. After you have finished with the drill bit you might have to use a piece of wire to get the rest out.If you have to blow or use compressed air. You have a hook up in the motor loom going to the boat you can take apart to blow through. USE LOW PRESSURE

Does any one have a picture of where this "motor loom" is located. Just took a drill bit Tuesday to clean mine out and wanted to back flow with air but was unable to locate a hose.

    Rodney

It the 2" loom comming out the bottom front of motor on driver side it has all the wires and cables in it that is going to the motor. You will have to take 2 10 mm bolts out to get to the hose connector by moving the loom back a little

GPS is on the want list, I'll proably go with a H20 so I can use it in my truck also.

I've been working on getting it dialed in so speedo at this time is needed. Also I'm a person who desires everything to work right whether I use it or not.

Why does Yamaha put it where it always gets plugged?????

After unplugging mine on my Yamaha 150 VMAX too many times to remember, I finally went with an outside external pitot. Also because the last time I was trying to use a drill bit by hand I broke the bit off in the hole.

Haven't had any problems with pluggage since.

Even though I have a GPS I still wanted my Yamaha digital speedo to work. I also found that the external pitot makes the speedo more accurate than when it was hooked up to the motor pitot. It runs right on the money with the GPS now.
