I was wondering if the smallies are heating up on the steal mills? More specifically are they in the ponds in front of US steal yet? Probably a little early but I got my brother heading up from MS and need to get him on some smallmouth. Thanks for any input.
I was up by Pastrick (East Chicago Marina) last weekend and got nothing, as did most other boats I saw. Water temp was 41 and 49 by the warm water discharge , just as info.

Tell him to try the BP Ammoco discharge, along the Inland wall, all around the Hammond Marina. Also inside Buffington Harbor, Then the Gary Lighthouse, and Lake St wall. They are starting to hit pretty good. I just joined the Whiting/Robertsdale Boat Club. This is the info I got from a good friend of mine who has been out with some success! I will be launching from there from now on. As soon as I finish changing the trolling motor and mounting my onboard charger, I will start fishing the big lake. I am rerouting some wiring also!

Not really hot yet and haven't made it into the hole either. Got some smallies at u.s and even better some nice coho:)
Launched out of Portage and had a decent day, had 16 over 3 3/4 best 5 went 25-8 and big fish was 5-10. Checked the ponds and they were off so we headed to East Chicago and cought them in spots with warmer water. Thanks guys
