What to do for a trip in Oct? Didn't draw a Colorado Mule Deer tag!

Well I checked and after being assured we would draw a mule deer tag with the areas we aplied for in Colorado, But No tag , refund check is in the mail.

After planing on that hunt, I'm not sure where my son and I are going to go hunt this fall.

Roddy, dont feel bad, I didnt draw either. Did draw an Elk Tag though...Im stoked!

I can make a suggestion...why not buy an OTC tag for Colorado and hunt elk with your bows? its a great way to spend time with you boys, cheap and there are a ton of elk in colorado. of course your best bet is to hunt the hardest parts you can find where people dont go...unit 85 in colorado is great and some pressure but has some good elk populations as well. just a suggestion.

im bear hunting in september, and possibly oct. The county our lease is at just went to a 2 bear a year bag limit, so i can really have some fun this year! over the counter resident and non resident tags - a third to half the price of a canada black bear hunt.

Have you considered a predator hunting trip? Go out and do some coyote/bobcat calling....that would make for a great hunting trip depending on where you can go.

Could be tough Roddy...when you apply and dont' get drawn. the problem is that it is too late to apply anywhere else. Ever think about hog hunting? I know people down in the Louisiana/Georgia/Alabama area will pretty much let you hunt for just takign the time to ask them or at least a fiarly small fee!!!!! May be an option for ya.

Hell, we got hogs 30 miles from my house, the land around Murphys's pond has them, and where my son is living in Crossville, TN is covered up with hogs. He's already run over one.

We will probably bow hunt IL if we don't draw an Iowa archery tag.

Guys, in August Colorado has their left over tag program. You can check online just before the date to see what is available. Then you can purchase the tags in the specified area. I would highly suggest you try this as well.

I've always heard those are very hard to come by, I'm obviously a resident here so I really wouldn't know. If you do manage to score some let me know where you're hunting! Lots of big ol corn fed brutes around here!

Re: What to do for a trip in Oct? Didn't draw a Colo ... (Roddy)

Just come ride around with me... my Explorer is a deer magnet!!! A few years ago I had a Ford Escort. Drilled a HUGE buck at 65 MPH. Never had any chance whatsoever to hit the brakes. This was a trophy Iowa buck if I'd ever seen one. Went to a friends house to call the police, went back, and it was gone. Amazing how tough those animals are. Complete shame since it had to have died later, but there was nothing I could do. About $2600 damage to the car. We have a Power Plant down here that is off limits, as soon as it gets cold I always drive around the perimeter just to see the brutes in there. I'd give anything to be able to hunt in there. Not sure how it goes with out of state licenses and if you get to pick where you hunt, but Van Buren County is just simply LOADED with huge deer. Also, northeast Iowa is crazy with them too. Everywhere is good but those two areas are phenomenal.
