    Sauger preparation?

I'm going Sauger fishing soon. I hear they taste great so any input on the best way to prepare them would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, I'll just fillet and fry them babies up like catfish.

    Re: Sauger preparation? (TennesseeBandit)

butter and lemon pepper cooked in foil wrap. Salt to taste

butter and fresh garlic (or garlic peper mix) in foil wrap. Salt and pepper to liking

very very small dash of dill on fillet and squeeze lemon over it.....foil wrap.

if you dont like the fishy taste as much add a little bit of thyme.

there are so many ways to cook walleye/sauger/saugeye that this list could get long.....I like simple things that still allow you to TASTE the fish a little.....you can dable with mustard sauces and berry sauces or just do a store bought sauce in jar/can to add plavor but sometimes wil kill it.

Walleye/sauger is one of the best tasting fresh water fish out there, so I would recommend that you don't overdo the sauces... Skin the fillet and prepare like Ryan says and I'm sure you will be happy with the results!!!!

P.S. I like fresh lemon juice, garlic and butter in the foil...

Walleye and Sauger are the Lobster of freshwater fish. Cook it any way you want to and it will taste great. I like the shore lunch method, a little butter in a frying pan with a few spices and a touch of salt when done. Don't waste it in a deep fry, that's like getting a prime filet well done... (you can save the fryer and cornmeal for some flatheads).
I think we're gonna need a bigger boat...
