I just recently repowered my boat with a 250 XS and added smart craft gauges at the time. The speedometer is intermittent at times. It never works when I first put the boat in the water, then it will start to work once I run for a while. Last time I was out it worked off and on regardless of speed. What would cause this?
Which Smartcraft Instrument do you have (if you're not sure... a picture would be helpful)?
Are you utilizing a GPS speed input, Pitot Speed Input, or Paddle-Wheel Input?

That's helpful. Now if we can just determine which Smartcraft Instrument you have (and which gearcase)...... if you're not sure on the gearcase, simply provide your serial number.

Its a torquemaster lower. The gauge is a 3 1/2 speedo, has the small screen at the bottom that can show air temp, oil level, fuel, etc.
I can take a picture of the gauge later if needed.
That indicates that you should also have a System TACH (you've described a System Speedo... which requires a System Tach to function properly).
Before going much more in depth.... push the mode button on the Speedo until you see SPEED on the digital display. Run the boat, and confirm that the DIGITAL READOUT and the "needle" match as you run. Report back, and we'll go from there....

I will check it next time I run it. I have the tach that matches the speedo and the compliment of small gauges to fill the spaces in the dash.
