    Stripping carpet adhesive

I've ripped all the carpet out and am in the process of removing all the adhesive from the lids and decks. What do you all use to strip the old adhesive off? I have been using straight Acetone and the fumes get to me after a while. Is there anything to use that is safe to use indoors that works better? Thanks.

I used a painters 5 in 1 tool just sharpened the edge and scraped it off. Worked really well on the alluminum lids and OK on the fiberglass floors and decks.

Buy a cheap angle die grinder at Wal Mart and get the 3M grinding disc kit and use the course discs. This worked really good for me and you really don't need to get it all off. Just get the surface smooth and the new glue will work fine. !!!! The discs are small so you will be able to do all the corners pretty well.

Re: Stripping carpet adhesive (Ranger 85)

I went to Lowe's and found industrial strength adhesive remover. I would use a chip brush to slop some on then very carefully us a heavy duty floor scraper and a non-scratch scotch bright pad. I had no adhesive left prior to the new carpet install.

Here is the link to my recarpet job.

Ranger 80, that looks GREAT. I am having lots of problems also. The acetone is really getting to me as well. Do you remember the name of the adhesive remover? Was it one of the citrus ones???

I put acetone in a spray bottle, spray it on the lid, let it sit for 30 seconds or so, do this a couple of times, use a scraper and the stuff comes up easily. If you give the acetone a few seconds to penetrate, it make it very easy, I did all nine lids on my triton yesterday in less than two hours, they look brand new. Also only used a gallon and half of acetone. Of course, I was also working outside too!
