Has anyone ever replaced the rubber molding around the outside of the boat? How hard is replacement, where do you buy it, and how expensive is it?

You mean the rubrail? If so it's usually a little over $100 and at least on my boat it just screws on.
Yes the rub rail, where can you get it and where are the screws.
West Marine sells rub rails. On my boat you pull out a piece of rope from the channel of the rail and the screw are under it. Yours may vary, I can't help you much there without seeing it.
Here's a link to the West Marine catalog rails

Ive got a 92 ranger 681, My rub rail sounds like what your talking about, what are the odds I can pull the rope out unscrew it and be able to get that rope back inside that grove? Im going to be wetsanding my boat and it would be easier if I removed the rub rail.
thanks

I was able to on mine without any problems. I would assume you could do the same on your Ranger.
That rope is no big deal. Just pull it out and it will push right back in with a little help. I replaced mine on my 350V Ranger. You can buy the rope at any big hardware store I used a white nylon on mine. You may be able to find a color rope that would look good to contrast the boat just make sure you buy enough to go around the boat in one piece.
