Erratic idle on 2000 3.0L Dfi

Just lake tested the motor I bought. i ran into a few things well testing the motors. my tacts didn't match each other. the newly installed eng. only showed 4000rpms at WOT
while the other was reading almost 6000 Rpms at WOT

I have a snyc gauge which seems to work. what can i do to fix the tac problems?

After running the new eng. for about 30 mins. I notice the it started idling up when in neutral about a 1000 rpms. it keep doing this until i took it out of the lake about another 15min or so. Any ideas whats going on?

    last problem

On one motor the trim is super slow to come up. it doesn't speed up when it comes off the two little rods and it bottoms out before it's fully up.

Thanks for any help yall can give me

    William

I would suspect that your motor is running at 1K in the warm up stage, once warmed up RPM's will reduce themselves. If it takes to long to warm up, you might check to see if the stats are hanging open.

it idles at the right RPM but it advances up over 1000 RPMs over idle. The idle surges

Before you get too deep into diagnostics..... let's two SIMPLE things:

    1. Ensure that the throttle cable is returning the throttle arm (left or port side of the engine) FIRMLY against the idle stop screw. Any adjustment necessary is done by adjusting the THROTTLE CABLE (DO NOT adjust the stop screw).

    2. Ensure that you are NOT APPLYING THROTTLE when turning the key on, or when starting the engine.

Report back after you've looked into these.... we'll go from there (if necessary).

Yes everything is where it should be. the eng rmp surge. it will idle fine then idle up over a 500-1000rpms then back to idle and it keeps doing this.

What do the spark plugs look like (and are they NGK- IZFR5G plugs, gapped at .032")?

Sooty, wet, clean, carbon fouled, etc?

The FIRST thing I would recommend is that you install the CORRECT spark plugs.

Ignore any information referring to "PZF...." spark plugs.

Your engine requires NGK- IZFR5G spark plugs, gapped at .032" per multiple service bulletins.

For future reference, you can look up this information at:
