'05 225 Opti Trim Height

How do you adjust the trim height? New "used" engine, will not tilt high enough to engage trailer position lock.

Even with the manual valve open you can only raise(lift) the engine to the same position as the tilt motor, there is only approx 4" of center piston rod that comes out of the hydraulic cylinder, it seems that aleast another 3" of piston rod is not coming out of the cylinder. It feels like there is some type of mechanical stop that is stopping the travel. Is there any mechanical "stops" located in the tilt/trim tube that could be set at a different position by whomever owned the engine before?

If you have a jack plate, be carefull trimming it up. It might cost you.http://www.bbcboards.net/zerothread?id=546005

Simple way to tell:

On the left transom bracket, there should be a Safety Latch, which is designed to hold the engine in the "UP" position.

Run the engine up as far as it will go. See if you can flip the latch into position.

If not- it's been limited (or there is a malfunction).
