Hey FlukenLizard, glad to see you posting here. I'm sure there will be plenty of the local experts along soon. In the meantime checkout this thread - http://www.bbcboards.net...02307 . Your boat will definitely require a highspeed polisher. I picked mine up, used, for a song but Harbor Freight sells an inexpensive one. I would be real careful in those heavy wear areas. Take your time with the sandpaper, feel the surface after rubbing till you feel a smooth, slick feeling. If it feels rougher (grainy) you should stop!! A few places on mine were just too close for comfort so I stopped and went to the next grain. The same goes for the rubbing compound. Start slow (1 speed) and go over it again at a higher speed (2-3). You should see a liquid-like gloss. If it begins to dull instead of shine STOP. In some places my gelcoat was too thin to continue. I lightened up on the pressure/speed and did the best I could. Heres a link to my project: http://s178.photobucket.com/al...b.pbw
    Good luck!! Rick

Its amazing what a little elbow grease & alot of time can do to improve the looks on these boats. Good luck & looking forward to seeing the finished results.

Wow, it looks good. I'm sure lots of elbow grease and sweat but it looks good. I had a mercury motor that had some fading and scratches. A new cowling on Ebay might be around $500. If you have a local body shop you trust take it to them and they can get the paint close to the rest of the motor. Might cost about $200 but it will be good as new.

we repainted my dads pro-v the paint was the expensive part LOL. I figured that a cowlin on ebay would go for at least 500 but the cowlin wouldnt match the rest of the motor so i think ill use ur idea and find me a good bpdy shop to repaint the motor

I had mine done and it looked like new and they managed to tape off the cowl stickers and saved me more money.

Get with Crazy Elvis (CE) and I think there's another guy or two now, a guy named Darryl maybe? Anyway, I know CE does good work and I'm sure the other guys do too. They are board sponsors and help keep this place running. I've seen some of the custom stuff they do and it's truely amazing. The stuff looks like special factory decals. Here is some info off of BBC http://www.bassboatcentral.com/celettering1.htm

and here's another board sponsor: http://www.iguanagrafix.com/

    Hope this helps.
