Teardown & repair question about a 2008 250 pro xs

I recently broke off a large piece of the cavitation plate on the front of the drive shaft housing on my motor. Was wondering if you have to pull the powerhead in order to change that housing. Also would welding that cast aluminum be a safe and reliable repair. Its the midsection above the lower unit. Thanks for any input

Replacement of the driveshaft housing DOES require removal of the powerhead, adapter plate, mounts and gearcase. It's a very "in-depth" job.

Personally, I'd need to SEE the damage to comment on whether or not welding is even something to consider. I usually DO NOT recommend welding in this area....
