Need some advice - jon boat floors

I want to put floors between the seats of my jon boat. Can I just coat some plywood with fiberglass resin to waterproof it or would that end up cracking and peeling off? I want to carpet over it with some astroturf type outdoor carpet to deaden the sound. Also, when I do get ready to carpet it, what type adhesive do you recommend? Thanks

Yes, you can use plywood. I would use 3/4". You might have to add some reinforcement underneath (such as a 2"x4", or aluminum angle), to strengthen the plywood, depending upon the distance between your seats. You would be better off using epoxy resin vs. fiberglass resin. Epoxy resin is a little more expensive, but it bonds to the wood much better than fiberglass. Put down at least two coats. You can glue the carpet down with either indoor/outdoor carpet adhesive or you can use contact cement. The contact cement grabs right away, but you have time to reposition the carpet with the adhesive, before it sets up.

Epoxy resin from U.S. Composites is what I have used and their prices are good.

You might want to make sure you use a rubber backed carpet, so the glue does not bleed through the carpeting.
