General jackplate questions

Hey fellas, long time lurker here, and I have a few questions about putting a jackplate on a boat. Its an 08 stratos 294XL with a yamaha 200, and the plate is a 6" TH hydrojacker. First question. Is it best to use transom support braces on the top and bottom mounting holes inside the hull? Second, How do you know which mounting holes on engine to use? And do you find your center of travel on the plate before mounting engine to it to set your initial height? Im no stranger to spinning wrenches, and have a full shop and forklift at my disposal for this project, Ive just never done it before. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Use transom support on top and what ever is on the bottom now. Set the plate so most of the travel is up. The motor needs to be set so the pad to prop shaft center is 1" below the lowest running point of your motor. Most people start their setup at 3 1/2" below so set it at 4 1/2" below for bottom then have the rest for upward movement.
