Going to fish a small tournament with some guys from work Sep. 23. I have never been on the kanawha river. Are there any dangers to look out for while running the river? We will be launching at the ramp at the moose club is the best fishing towards charleston or should i go towards beckley or up the elk river? Any patterns, techniques, locations, baits, etc... would be appreciated i am totally lost, thanks...
You could go up river to the locks and fish for brown bass. If you go up the elk stay near the middle you can run maybe three or four miles before it gets real shallow. When you get up the Elk and see an island you better back off she gets shallow real quick.
The locks may be up river I wouldnt think no more than 5 miles and yes you can lock through. Is it worth it well there are a lot of people that lock through and I have seen some real nice smallmouth take a ride back down river in a livewell. Of course I have never been fortunate enough to bring them back.
