Was there any advice pertaining to bass fishing from someone, like your grandad, father, another fisherman, that you still use today that made you a better angler?

Only fished with my Grandpa one time. Caught my first topwater fish with him. He said wait till rings disappear on surface before moving bait. That was over 50 years ago. Still do it.
When cleaning Bass at the table save the heads and carcass to bait the Turtle hooks and limb lines.
a guide once told me don't fish memories
Was once told by a Pro in a Pro AM, " never leave biting fish"
Someone can tell you in 10 minutes what it will take you 10 years to find out on your own. If your listening.
A big name pro told plenty of us several years ago to "Never Give Up".
Family moved out of inner city New Orleans when I was 8...to the edge of the vast Delta. Only 3 houses there and nobody fished. A bayou came within 50 yards of our back door straight back to famous Lake Cataouatche. I bought a spincast rod and 3 lures first. An H&H spinnerbait, a floating Rapala, and a 6 inch pre rigged Creme worm. Had no idea how to work them but the bass let me know. Caught tons of 4,5, and 6 lb bass. When I was 17 I just joined a bass club in 69. Learned some stuff from some of the old timers, but they also learned from me. I had no preconceived notion of the right or wrong way to rig and fish lures. I was hooking worms in the middle sometimes and fishing them what is now called wacky worming. I was swimming jigs, the other guys just fished them slow always. There were no swimsuits in freshwater, but there was in saltwater then. I did not realize the swim baits were for saltwater and was using them in freshwater with great success. It helps to have someone to show you things, but sometimes, it works out .
Awesome post. Keep it coming
Talked to Rick Clun one time one on one. Asked about color for spinner bait. He said it’s the blade not the. Color. Still trying to get that right
My grandfather:
(Tx rig) “always throw over the log or lay down, pull it across and let it fall.”
“Casting accuracy is everything, practice in the yard with a cup”
”if you know there’s fish, wait them out, they gotta eat”
Papaw was a big local tournament angler, and was known locally for being a superb river fisherman. He knew the red river (Louisiana) like the back of his hand. I grew up fishing with him on the river, and on Toledo Bend. I miss him dearly, but think about him every time I go fishing!

Grandpa never gave me any advice really BUT he NEVER left me behind. When I was in the 6th grade Dad gave me a book “ The Art Of Fishing the Plastic Worm” by Bill Dance. Read it 100s of times.

Fish as slow as you can then SLOW down.
Uncle Mac told me you can always outrun a thunderstorm if you have a fast boat. I suppose that leaves you Ranger guys out.
Spend less than you make.
My dad told me to use my left hand to cast a bait caster reel.

I keep thinking of stuff. But no advice helped me be a better angler, that I can think of. Only time on the water and personal experiences did.

My Mother loved to fish. She always said, “I don’t care if I catch any - I just want them to move the bobber”
I think about her often and to just enjoy fishing.
