St. Johns River Green Cove Springs North

I am new to fishing the river north of the Shands Bridge. I went out all day Saturday and it looks like the east bank is the best but I still had a hard time finding spots that were deep enough to hold fish. Is there any eel grass north of the Shands bridge? Do you mainly have to fish drops and bottom structure? I have tried Black Creek before but i do not know where to start since it is so deep. Any help in how to fish this part of the river would be great. I know the fish are here, I went to the TNT weigh in a couple of weeks ago and a lot of nice fish were weighed in.

Thanks for any help, I fished 8 hours Saturday without a bite!

shell bars and drop offs are usually your best bet, but they are an off and on type deal. you really have to fish them a lot to nail them down.... tides and wind really affect this part of the river. one of my most solid patterns up there are docks. find the docks with the deepest water during a moving tide... in or out... and pitch a senko or something like that as far underneath it as you can... hold on because some bigguns live under there... hope this helps...

Thanks for the information, I figured that outgoing tide was as important as it is in Palatka and farther south. What is best in terms of fishing the drops, fishing fast with crankbaits, etc... or working it slower with a carolina rig or drop shot?

Also, this is an open invitation for anyone that would like to fish the river just let me know. I am also willing to take someone with me when I head out.
