XD 50 or XD 100 for a newly rebuilt (rings) Vindicator 200

What oild should I use after changing rings on my 96 Vindicator 200 ?
Should I max a little in with the gas also ?

ALSO: Can i bypass my VRO and mix manually also as a permanent thing ? I am really scared or the VRO going out and leaving me with 200HP of scrap metal.

    Thanks

XD-50 for your carbed motor, and if you choose to dis-connect the VRO you'll need to mix at 50:1 in your tank. If it was me personally I'd spend the $270 for a new VRO and be done with it. Double oil for the first 10 hours too to make sure they get seated good and fatten up the #2 High speed jet. CM

As CM said go xd50 & update the VRO for a long motor life.

How much does fatting up the #2 High speed jet affects gasoline consumption for an already gas thirsty outboard?

Changing #2 jet helps to cool the piston with fuel, I doubt you would notice an increase in fuel consumption.

Hey CM can you 'splain the numerical value of the high speed jet? (#2 and so forth)

Dat's easy, that is the size of the jet's id (inside diameter) as far as your X-flow goes you should have no problems unless you don't send me any of them crabs! Course they are probably out of molting season now so I'm out of luck! . All of your X-flow settings are (carb) fixed. No need to worry.

Can someone confirm that the VRO should be replaces after X number of hours ? Mine is still functional... so should this be done as preventative maintenance ?

    Thanks

The VRO should have been replaced with a OMS pump when the rebuild was done.

Yep! . . . and don't forget the oil tank filter especially if it has the foam filter like mine it was a piece of crap. The newer nylon type filter is best in my opinion.

The only reason that you are out of luck is I don't know how I could ship crabs and keep them alive until they reach you. Believe me, if I could, I would gladly ship you some.

But don't freak out when you measure the id of the jet and it is about .002 bigger than marked...

Any rebuild should include the new "VRO" pump, oil tank cleaning and filter, and new oil hose if the old one is the siff and brittle vinyl. For more info on the VRO and how it works and busting the myths, go to:

Re: XD 50 or XD 100 for a newly rebuilt (SEAHORSE)

From the article in the link above:

When working on a fuel system, check for any restrictions or air leaks which would affect the engine. You can use a clear piece of fuel line connected to the VRO inlet and "T" off to a vacuum gauge. Run the motor at all speeds while inspecting for air bubbles in the line and for any vacuum restrictions above 4-inches Hg. A system with 3/8-inch fuel lines, a clean "spin on" filter, and a quality anti-siphon valve should show between 2.5 to to 3-inches of vacuum at full speed.

Does anyone run with a vacuum guage permanently for the above reason ? Is this recommended ?

The VRO should have been replaced with a OMS pump when the rebuild was done.

Is this the same as the "new" VRO pump ?

I have never seen anyone run a vacuum guage other than for testing purposes.

The New VRO is referred to as an OMS pump.
