Don:
I saw a few dated posts on this but no consistent resolution (that I could find). Engine will give the usual short beep when turning the key on, and will periodically give a short second beep when turning the engine over. Motor always starts right up, no SmartCraft warnings, and all seem fine. The cranking battery is on a trickle charger so it should be fully charged.
Any new info on the periodic second beep for this motor?

The only time that has happened to me I had to replace the cranking battery. Don't know for sure if it's a programmed warning for low CCA or what. I let it go for a few weeks and was left dead in the water. Check battery connections for cleanliness & tightness, if all ok I would replace it with the Biggest most Powerfull one you can fit. Minnimum of 1000 MCA for Merc.
If you've got smartcraft gauges...watch your volt reading when cranking. I think you'll get it if your cranking voltage drops below 11.5VDC or so.

There has not been (as of yet) any updated info from Merc on this topic. They are aware of the issue, and plan to address it (likely in a future calibration release).
However.... the issue does commonly present when battery CAPACITY is below the minimum spec of 1000 MCA or 800 CCA. Keep in mind.... a battery with these ratings is ONLY going to be good to start the boat when FULLY charged- with no draw/drain whatsoever.
I highly recommend a HIGHER CAPACITY battery for use on your engine. See this topic for a list of "well-suited" batteries:

Same thing on my 09 225XS.....upgraded from 24 to 27 series cranking battery and the second beep went away.
Mine doing the same now. It also shows on my 3 bank charger a red blinking light at 30 percent. Must be a battery problem. Mine is due to be replaced so must be it.
