I have finished many baits with devcon 2ton epoxy. My first question is after you thin it down how do you get the "foam" aka small air bubbles out of the finish? I have tried a heat gun but that actually seemed to make it worse.
Also I had a guy ask me if I could do a matte finish. Can anyone tell me how to get a matte finish?

I never thin my epoxy. I mix it well 50/50 perfect and brush it on.

you can use a few drops of denatured alcohol to thin it. but don't over-do it as it can compromise the strength of the epoxy.
i never thin devcon if you get it warm it usually goes on thinner and smooths out well
I was hoping someone had some ideas on how to get a matte finish as apposed to a high gloss. I have seen baits done this way I just don't know how to do it. I'm sure I'll have to use a different clear than the D2T. I just don't know what I need. Any help would be appreciated.
I have always used a few drops of acetone. Not too much just enough to get the epoxy to lay down. I have also noticed that it will give you more time. This also has a downside, it takes it longer to cure. The only prob I'm having is the bubbles. I may be getting it too thin.

To give the bait a dull finish, after the topcoating with Devcon has cured just go over the bait with 4/0 steel wool, it will kill the shine. Waste of time though, once its wet the shine is back.
If you heat the epoxy in the tubes with a hair dryer before you mix it, it will thin out and the bubbles will disappear. I personally think Nason automotive clearcoat is the way to go. It has a lighter stronger finish and is much easier to work with. It gives the bait a wet look. But that is just me.
