    Crackle Spray Paint

Hi, anybody use the spray cans of "crackle paint" on reel seats or lures before?

Did you spray it with clear after?
How did the paint look and hold up after use?

I want to paint a reel seat red and then hit it with black on top that will crackle.
Any feedback or hints are appreciated.

I haven't done that, but like the idea.

Out of all the different paints I've tried, Rust-Oleum Hammered is the most durable straight out of the can. It's worth a shot if you've never tried it.

I might just try it on a reel seat I have.

What sort of clear should I use? Regular urethane?

The problems with urethanes is the oil from your skin soften them same with acrylics, your best bet would be a automotive type clear if you can find one. The crackle paint I have used before and it is very hard to get a consistent pattern to it this is bad with big things but it just might work with a reel seat. I also like the hammered look spray it is very easy to work with.

You think I can brush it with a light coat of finish similar to thread epoxy and turn it until dry?

I don't now much about the rod epoxies just paint, I have about 23 years in the paint business. But never have done any rod building.

    Just a heads up.
The Michael's in my area had crackle spray paint on clearance. $3 a can.
Not sure if this is for all of their stores.
